Hailing in the midst of the sacred holy grounds of Jerusalem, Spawn of Evil has been stirring up mosh-pits with their death metal antics for over 10 years. Their first demo Lion Den of God, which is a full length album released in 1999, proves that their music is something that they are all very passionate about. Some of the highlights of this demo are the opening track “Black is the Season” which starts out with haunting guitars before exploding into some death metal licks. Also the title track “Lion Den of God” is another infectious track that starts with some Slayer-style groove, kicking drums, and some more dark growls. The quality of the recording is poor by today’s standards, but impressive for the time.
Fast forward a couple of years to their six song Shratzim Demo released in 2002. This demo sounds a hell of a lot better. The song “My Own God” reminds me of Lamb of God when they first started out and they were still going under the name Burn the Priest. Creepy intros seem to be a thing that they are very passionate about before kicking into their death riffs. Next on the album is “Lord of the Flies” and it’s another example of their speed and precision that can leave a lasting impression of their infectious strong constancy of speed metal. Very few change ups are necessary when trying to summon the devil in the holy lands. This band stays true to their death metal backbone throughout all of their tracks.
Now it's time for the current tracks from these hell raisers. The song “Saneman” starts out with a demonic sample before crunching into some head banging action that seems to never end. All you have to do is listen to the first 10 seconds of this song and you will know how the song ends. Nothing changes! Very dry and lame! My personal favorite is the song “It’s Contagious” due to the fact that it makes me want to start a circle pit because of the masterful dramatics that send the listener into the bowels of hell.
