Female fronted rockers Raygun Girls are a promising young talent. On their 4th album Dirt Collector they prove their worth with 11 gleefully challenging tracks that grow hotter by the minute. Still cutting their teeth in the New York scene they have been around since 2001 as a studio band only, playing their first show in 2004 and signing a deal with Kill Zone records in spring of 2007. This band has come along way playing several shows and festivals on the East Coast gaining a grass roots following helping them play a few sold out shows.

Raygun Girls create a sound that is comparable to bands as Lacuna Coil, In this Moment, Jack off Jill and the more famous Nine Inch Nails. Opening song and title track “Dirt Collector” could easily be played on the radio like a disease plaguing your every moment in the car. Spreading their love with gothic undertones, “Matter of Time” is a fast paced song that lifts the spirit of the listener with some showboating guitar cuts. Backed by a heavy, but haunting guitar riff “Learning to Die” is my favorite track on the album. “Accelerate” is another hard hitting track with a gritty riff and a heavy mix of grooves that shadow over the vocal melodies.

Dirt Collector is a solid release with highlights of industrial progressions, busy rhythms, and thunderous doom laden blast beats. All and all The Raygun Girls is a band to keep your eyes on. I truly expect big things from this band in the future. I have to admit that I was a little disappointed with the recording of the album. If they could find a major label that would fund a highly produced album, this band could be one song away from mainstream America.

  1. Thanks for reviewing our record. It means a lot that people are listening and talking about it, no matter what is said. We do appreciate your kind words about our efforts and this affirms that we are not, in fact, doing what we do in a vacuum. Thanks again so much.
