Raginpit Scene Report – August 15th 2007
Hey everyone, time for some news. Some good, some not so good. First, the bad news: Edge, writer and founder of this here Raginpit Magazine is in the hospital, and might be needing surgery. Keep an eye out for bulletins to get status, and maybe drop an encouraging comment here on the myspace. We all wish him a speedy recovery!
Now, for some good news:
- Borderwars has parted ways with drummer Justin Kier, and are presently looking for a new member to take over on drums, and will be using a temporary drummer to fill in for booked shows. If you think you can hang, hit them up on their Myspace page. The band will also be heading into Sharkbite Studios later this month to record a new CD.
- Stagnant has also lost a band member, as they have amicably parted ways with Brent Dimick, so they are searching for a new lead guitarist. Falling To Pieces bassist Kimo Sanborn and Drunknlush guitarist/vocalist Steve Schmidt have been filling in for currently booked shows. If you are interested, send them a message on Myspace.
- Speaking of Falling To Pieces, they will be playing with Dublin Death Patrol, the new thrash outfit including Chuck Billy of Testament and Steve Souza of Exodus on September 7th at the Pine Street Bar and Grill in Livermore. If you need details, check out FTP's Myspace. Oh, and as always, buy their CD and buy their merch!
- Darque Carnival will be playing a show called Reno Rocks Autism on September 1st at Club Underground with several bands, including Malevolent, Colma, and Lingus, among others. If you need details on the show, check out their Myspace.
On a personal note, if you don't know what Autism is, take a few minutes and google it, as it is a very serious brain development disorder that is becoming more prevalent, as the number of children being affected is 1 in 150. I personally have experience with autistic children, so this is a cause that is dear to me. If it doesn't affect you now, most likely it will sooner or later.
- Lava Booking has a shitload of shows coming up at 3 different venues in downtown Oakland. Most of these bands are metal, and Shocker approved (I even saw Giant Squid on one of the show listings!) so go check out Amanda's Myspace page for details on the shows and support the metal!
That's it on the local front, now for some national news:
- Slayer will be web casting their show at the San Diego Sports Arena on August 25th. The real-time stream will be available on www.yebotv.com, starting just before 8pm PDT. You can also stream it live on www.slayer.net and www.esp.com.
- HORSE the Band recently shot a video for their song "New York City" with director Roboshobo (Mastodon, The Blood Brothers, Poison the Well). The video is available on you tube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mi6RLrWzMZY if you want to check it out.
- Chthonic is back in the news, as they were interviewed on NPR, as they are the first ever Asian extreme metal band to be on the Ozzfest Tour. You can listen to the interview at www.kqed.org. Also, guitarist Jesse and basssit Doris have signed an endorsement deal with Dunlop guitar picks. Chthonic will also join Cradle of Filth for four shows in September, and they will also be hitting Europe. A lot of exciting things are happening for this band!
- Dethklok, the world's most brutal animated extreme metal band and stars of Adult Swim's Metalocolypse (one of my favorite shows, by the way) will be releasing their new album entitled Dethalbum on September 25th. It will be 2 discs of brutal tunes, even including the "Duncan Hills Coffee" jingle! I'm stoked!
Well, that's it for this week. See ya back here in a couple weeks.
Later,
The Shocker
