The Shred Report - October 15, 2007

I have a question. What is the deal with there being so many idiotic drivers on the road these days? I almost got hit twice in the span of one hour, and I think I just might have sprained my middle finger. Yeah, yeah, I know that doesn’t have anything to do with music or news about music, but this is my column so if I want to vent, I’m going to vent. That’s just how I roll.

OK, I feel better. On with the news…

- Killgasm has just put out a LIMITED number of handmade copies of their latest EP entitled Goat Grind. This EP includes 5 new studio tracks which they plan to also release on an upcoming split with a band to be determined, and 3 live tracks including a grind core cover of a Misfits tune and also a tribute song to Chris Benoit. What Misfits song, you ask? Well, you’re just going to have to pick one up to find out, now aren’t you? You can get one for $3, so just check the blog on their Myspace.

- As I’ve mentioned here before, I really hate thieves. Whether it be band equipment, vehicles, or in the case of Awaiting The Apocalypse - studio rent money - it really gets my goat. Due to this, some bands got together and held a benefit show at On The Y to help raise some cash so these guys can pay the rent. Forktung and a cover band consisting of members of Omnidemic and others got together and raised exactly $666 to help out. Is that rad or what?

- Sathanas are set to release a new CD entitled Crowned Infernal, which was mixed and mastered at Necromorbus Studios in Sweden and includes artwork by Necrolord. You can hear fresh tracks posted on their Myspace page.

- Nephilim are hard at work writing new material which they hope to be recording soon and are heading in an even more progressive direction than on their last release. They have shows coming up and specifically one in which they will need all you metalheads to help. The thrashers will be tearing it up in the Rock Wars at the Speakeasy Lounge in Old Sacramento on October 26th, so all of you 21+ need to go out and give them a vote of support. The prize is $2000 and could go a long way to the recording of the aforementioned new material! And get this: they will be opening for Amon Amarth at the Boardwalk in December. That’s some pretty exciting news coming from the Nephilim camp!

- Toe Tag will be packing up their van and hitting the road heading south for a couple shows, one in particular at the newly re-opened Mabuhay Gardens with Attitude Adjustment and Verbal Abuse.

- Shaxul Records has a bunch of new and restocked vinyl and CDs for sale, so head to the site and buy some stuff! DJ Shaxul will be on Rampage Radio again October 22nd on 90.3 FM in San Francisco, or online at www.kusf.org from 2AM to 8AM, so check it out for some awesome underground metal.

- Adrenaline Trigger Productions has informed me that The Kennel Club in Sacramento, CA is going all ages! Construction has already begun, with all ages shows beginning late October.

That’s what I have for the locals, here’s some interesting tidbits nationally:

- Dethklok, stars of the most awesome cartoon in the universe (in my opinion), Metalocalypse, have released their CD entitled The Dethalbum, which debuted at #21 on the Billboard Top 200, selling nearly 34,000 copies in its first week. From what I’ve heard, the album is pretty awesome from a musical standpoint. Dethklok is also planning a tour with dates to be released soon.

- Later this month, Hellyeah embarks on the “Balls, Volume, and Strength Tour” headlining with Otep and Bloodsimple as support. They are also looking for local bands to open up the show on each stop of the tour. Go to www.MyYearbook.com/ballsvolumeandstrengthtour to learn how your band can land the opening slot.

Well, that about does it for this week. Check in here in a couple weeks for the latest news in the West Coast underground and beyond. If you have news, email me, dammit!

- Shocker out
