Welcome punks and metal heads to the February edition of the Shred Report. We’ve got some news from the underground, both signed and unsigned. Take a look at the exciting things going on in our punk and metal community, and who knows, you may even find your new favorite band.

The Venting Machine, previously a Raginpit Magazine featured band has found a new singer. The band parted ways with vocalist Josh Hoover late last year and have announced that their new vocalist is Adam Raffety, formerly of Beyond Years and Sickle. Presently, the band is bringing Adam up to speed with TVM material and will be back to playing shows in the next couple of months. They are recording some tunes with Adam so we can all hear what this monster band sounds like with the fresh blood.

Better Left Unsaid, out of Modesto, CA, have welcomed a new guitar player into the fold. Jason Eick, formerly of Burn in Silence, has replaced longtime BLU string-wrangler Jason Jones, who has decided to pursue other ventures.

Dorcia, from Reno, NV have completed writing and pre-production on their next album entitled Tourist. They have 10 new songs and one cover tune to bring into Imirage Studios on February 12th, and will spend a week tracking. They have promised to post some tracks on their myspace page once mastered. The new material is heavier and more dynamic and they feel it’s their strongest material to date.

Bay area metal act Saros will also be heading into the studio toward the end of this month. They will begin tracking at Sharkbite Studios in Oakland with Billy Anderson starting February 22nd. The band has also launched a new website with an online store.

The bay area metal force that is Hellhunter have parted ways with Sven the Berzerker so he can concentrate on his work with Mordred SS and Mercenary and the upcoming recordings by those bands. The split is amicable and the band say they “wish that fucker the best of luck.” The band has decided to continue on as a 4-piece.

Forsake the Flesh, from Sacramento, CA, have welcomed a new guitarist into the band. Scott Kennedy has joined the death metal outfit and they are writing new material. Due to numerous lineup changes, the band says they most likely will be changing names before jumping back into the show circuit.

A Lower Deep, from Hotlanta, GA, have inked a record deal with Turkey Vulture Records, which is associated with Nuclear Blast. The band will head into Full Spectrum Studio in Fond du Lac, WI in April to begin recording their debut album for TVR.

Blownload, from Sacramento, CA, have announced two new additions to the band. Frost (Luxt, Deconstruct) is the new drummer and Nate Higgins (Circle of 5ths, Malcom Bliss) has taken over on guitar. With a complete lineup, the band is ready to play shows again and bring the vulgarity to every club that will let them in the door.

Polish extreme metal band Behemoth have inked a North American deal with Metal Blade Records. Coming off a successful direct support slot for second stage headliners Hatebreed on the 2007 Ozzfest tour, the band will be releasing an EP of new tracks this summer, which I expect will be as evil as ever. Behemoth is one of the most exciting bands on the forefront of the extreme metal movement. If you have not checked out this band, you suck.

In other extreme metal news, Australian black/death metal band Belphegor are returning to the US this month with Rotting Christ, Immolation and Averse Sifera for the “Lucifer Over America” tour. The tour will run from the east coast to the west coast and end up in Texas, so check their site for details to see if the blasphemy will be coming your way!

Fresh off a brief West Coast tour with Book of Black Earth, The Funeral Pyre will be heading into the studio to record their new album for Prosthetic Records, entitled Wounds, with John Haddad (Intronaut, Abysmal Dawn, Eyes of Fire). Mixing will be completed by none other than Eric Rutan (Hate Eternal, Cannibal Corpse). I personally am looking forward to this one as The Funeral Pyre was the first band I added on myspace when, in a moment of conformity, I joined the site, and I’ve been a fan ever since.

UK thrash band Sabbat, featuring co-founder/guitarist Andy Sneap, who is known for his production prowess, recording bands such as Testament, Killswitch Engage, Megadeth and Machine Head, will be making their US touring debut this April in select cities across the country. The band is very excited to be bringing their old-school thrash to US fans in a live setting.
Well, that’s all I’ve got for this edition. Check you next time and be sure to email me any band news you have at news@raginpitmagazine.com
