As amusing as I had found all this to be, I remember the good old days when they had an army of Jesus freaks trying (and failing) to convert us metal loving heathens to their narrow views of Christianity.
The entire genre does not seem to be recognized with the level of respect it deserves, even with the massive numbers of Ozzfest or the Unholy Alliance. For some reason the American Idol cast-offs or Dixie Chicks seem to garner the perception of success while metal has met capacity crowds for years.
Nowadays old school metal seems to be fading away and soon it can be forgotten. That’s why we are here, to bring back the furious, rabid angst of pure metal, to revamp that feeling that alone helped to develop a sound, a mystique that still drives our daily life.
I think the underground bands that stayed true and pushed on while the whole thing went pop-metal-rap-NU, what-the-fuck-ever, are the strength of the scene now. I could not even think about doing that rap crossover thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love rap and hardcore hip hop, just not in my metal! It soured me and I went completely left field – full on rock’n'roll for five years in the face of that, but I give respect to the bands the stuck it out.
…Up here, I keep seeing old-school metal trying to make a comeback: Exodus, Death Angel, Testament, Heathen, all have or are working on new material for new albums and if it does come back, we have our foot in the door already because most bands out there now days are nu-metal or want to be Incubus or Papa Roach or some shit. I know those bands I mentioned sell a lot of records, but MAS would just rather be ourselves.
As you could imagine it’s a shred fest and when I am home from tour we play all up and down the East Coast and I manage the band when I am on tour.

…metal is popular and tons of thousands of bands are out there and it is growing all the time. So in that case metal is kicking ass, but in the American market it just seems that metal is un-officially censored by the labels, the television, and the radio stations.
Well, I was tired of band competition and BS, I never saw my friends that were in bands, and I was tired of doing shows with bands I did not know.
