We stick with it for the most part and the fact that it’s lasted 25 years is a testament to the creative uniqueness of what GWAR is and the fact that, I mean shit, if we couldn’t play our instruments, we’d end up like Lordi’s going to be in two years. I mean, you know we can play and our fucking fans love our shit, they love the show and there you go. We kick ass.

We won the Dutch finals and so we went to Copenhagen to play the European finals. It was really cool to go there with the band.
…because without friends and contacts you can’t do anything. The rock and metal scene is built up by friends helping each other out just because they are passionate about the music and that’s what’s so great about the scene.
Unfortunately, it’s not just about getting out there and playing metal, there’s other aspects to look at. You just gotta make sure you are handling everything properly so you don’t get fucked over.
…deathcore, a sub genre of death metal, is quickly becoming a new mainstay for newer metal fans looking for intense brutality on the darker side of things and yet still want that groove.

Yes, the people who would cry “the scene is dead” aren’t the ones going to shows. Get out from behind the computer and catch some live music. You might find something you really like.
…I would make it a note to go out to every local band’s show that I befriended or even caught my interest slightly and really try to help everybody work together and try to get the other bands involved, so that everybody could just have a fan base grow around the entire scene.
We wanted to fire the first fucking shot and be like, “here’s the fucking standard. We know you bands are bigger than us but we challenge you guys to put something out at the same level.”
Two years, no singer and I was singing for another band. I got fired from my job and fired from my band on the same day, so then I hit up Randy and said, “dude, you need a vocalist, right?” He’s like, “yeah.” So I went down there and tried out and fucken made it. He had quit like a week before. He said, “fuck it, I’m out, man. Fuck it.” Then they called him back and said, “we got a singer, dude.”
That’s the way it’s gonna be. You watch, like in 20 years maybe even less, they’ll have death metal in commercials and all kinds of shit. I’m not saying that’s good, but I’m saying it’s very possible. I mean, just the fact that you have bands with blast beats in the top 10 is something I never would have believed was even possible, like when we started out.
